Hi Bob,

I highly recommend installing homebrew:  http://brew.sh.  Then

brew install mpich2
brew install hdf5

Then set your paths in your Makefile.h to point at /usr/local, where homebrew installs everything and you should be good to go.  Also, see http://flash.uchicago.edu/site/flashcode/user_support/flash4_ug_4p22/node43.html.
