Yes, one has nothing to do with the other:

   ed_gridType_n: controls how rays inside the beam are created

   ed_laser3Din2DwedgeAngle: controls how accurate the 3D cylinder
                             will be resolved in 3D space when tracing
                             rays through the 2D domain
