<p>I can confirm that installing <span>hdf5-1.8.19 instead of <span>hdf5-1.10.1</span>, without --enable-parallel, solved the problem for me.</span></p>

<p dir="ltr">I had the exact same error and fixed it by installng HDF5 1.8 instead of 1.10</p>
