[FLASH-BUGS] hdf5 1.6.0 & unreadable plotfile

Dear developers,

on aster.teras.sara.nl (an SGI Altix 3700 system, consisting of 416 CPUs),
where hdf5 1.6.0 is installed, I discovered a very odd problem: My
flash2.3-program produces checkfiles that are ok, but plotfiles which I
cannot even be dumped.

> h5dump AGB_hdf5_chk_0000
works, but

> h5dump AGB_hdf5_plt_cnt_0000
h5dump error: unable to open file "AGB_hdf5_plt_cnt_0000"

Have you or any other user ever experienced such a strange error?
Any hint what could be wrong?
