[FLASH-USERS] linking error with HDF5

Hello Adam,

I'm afraid this issue might not be related to HDF5 but rather to a missing zlib library. If you have sysadmin privileges on the machine you use, you could try to use package managers such as apt, yum, or dnf to install zlib system-wide. Alternatively, you can download the source code from https://zlib.net/, then compile and install it -- using the same compiler you used to build Flash. Please let me know if still issues or other questions.

Thanks,
Baowei Liu

Dear Flash users,

When I make Flash on a new machine, I get the following error:

...
owalski/myhdf5stuff/build/ci-StdShar-GNUC/HDF5-2.0.0-Linux/HDF_Group/HDF5/2.0.0/lib -lhdf5 -lz
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lz
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [Makefile:384: flash4] Error 1

I'm wondering what the -lz does (can't find it through googling) and if there is another way I can link the HDF5 libraries?

Thanks,
Adam K.
