Thanks for providing this. I have verified that your patch can be applied 
with a command like

 patch -p0 --dry-run < FLASH4.5_parallelHDF5.diff

on top of the previous patch that is available at

  http://flash.uchicago.edu/site/flashcode/user_support/

(following basically the same instructions).

I will combine the two patches, and make an updated version available
on the User Support page after some testing.
