Hey,
  for anyone else with the HDF5 issue, Matt swapped the order:

should be: -DH5_USE_16_API

Thanks Matt for pointing me in the right direction though!

Sorry I couldn't be more help, Suoqing. I'll play around with Sod as you
described and let you know if I have any issue.
