I don't think there is a general rule about what kind of impact can be 
expected from this code change.

But I hope sombody will share their experience.

That is the intention - when hy_fullSpecMsFluxHandling is off, fluxes 
of species and mass fractions should be handled essentially as in the 
previous version.
